GYS families are asked to perform at least 2 volunteer opportunities throughout the year, in addition to the regular needs at rehearsals and concerts.

Fundraising
Volunteers are needed at all times of year to canvass restaurants/businesses for donations for silent auctions/fundraisers
Grant Writing
Assist in the writing of grant or foundation applications
Board President (currently filled – accepting nominations for next year)
The GYS Board President is elected by, and therefore is responsible to, the Board. You will be responsible for, with help from paid staff and the Board, developing long-term and annual goals, arranging board meetings, and creating any relevant materials prior to meetings. Delegate tasks to the Vice President in a timely manner, in your absence. You will be responsible for training the Vice President and working closely with paid staff to create meaningful job descriptions that are reviewed annually. You will also be a spokesperson to the public and media if GYS Board expression is needed. Above all else, you will seek goodwill of others towards the GYS organization.
Vice President (currently filled)
As the Vice President of GYS, you will be trained directly by the active President. The aim is to train you to take over the President’s position once their term ends. Another part of your role is taking on key tasks that will be delegated directly to you, by the President.
Secretary (currently filled)
Your role as the GYS Secretary involves attending Board of Director and Executive Committee meetings. Taking minutes at these meetings is one of your more crucial tasks, but this can be divided among Board members if you are absent for a meeting. Responsibilities of the secretary vary but can be shared among board members if needed.
Treasurer (currently filled – accepting nominations for next year)
As the GYS Treasurer you will be responsible for keeping full and accurate accounts of all receipts and disbursements for GYS. You will deposit all money and valuables in the name and to the credit of GYS. It will be crucial for you to ensure proper completion of financial statement and ensure annual audits are performed. You will also be asked to provide monthly statements to the Board.
Fundraising Coordinator (currently filled)
As a Fundraising Coordinator, you will be expected to map out fundraising initiatives for the year, in proper alignment with the schedule of activities in the season. Your role will include bringing fundraising initiatives to the Board for approval and encouraging, organizing, and supporting parent volunteers. You will also have the unique opportunity to connect the GYS Board and individual fundraising working groups. Another key part of your role will be to provide monthly reports to the Board regarding financial expenditures and progress of fundraising initiatives.
Marketing and Promotions Coordinator (Vacant – accepting nominations)
In your role as a Marketing and Promotions Coordinator, you will be responsible for mapping out the GYS promotional initiatives to align with the season’s schedule and bring it forward to the Board for approval. Monthly financial and progress reports will be shared with the Board and you will work to ensure all promotions meet GYS branding and publication standards.
Touring Coordinator
Your role as the Touring Coordinator will involve planning (with the help of paid staff and Board members) touring activities for the season. You will have the opportunity to work with a team of volunteers to explore touring options and experiences for the different choirs. You will also be asked to provide reports to the Board on touring activities, financial expenditures, and progress.
Youth Representative (currently filled)
Your role as Youth Representative will be to offer insights from the youth/past choristers’ point-of-view. You will help make connections between GYS and young people in our community, attend monthly Board meetings, provide advice and ideas to support operations, help make informed decisions related to finance, programming, and other activities, and support the work of GYS committees (e.g., fundraising).
Community Representative (currently filled)
Your role as Community Representative will be to offer insights from a member of the community’s point-of-view. You will help make connections between GYS and the broader community, attend monthly Board meetings; provide advice and ideas to support operations, help make informed decisions related to finance, programming, and other activities, and support the work of GYS committees (e.g., fundraising).
Member at Large
Your role as a Member at Large will be to attend monthly Board meetings, provide advice and ideas to support operations, help make informed decisions related to finance, programming, and other activities, and support the work of GYS committees (e.g., fundraising).
Choristers from Chamber Choir are valued as mentors and assistants to Choirs I and II. If you would like to assist with Choirs I or II in the areas listed below, please let us know.
Description of Duties
Duties will vary according to the needs of the choristers. There are several areas that may be tested: theory skills; singing and hand signing sequences; memorization testing; sight-reading testing.
