SATB is the advanced mixed voice choir, welcoming in our most experienced trebles and talented changed or changing lower voices. Repertoire spans many genres including folk, classical, vocal jazz, contemporary a cappella, and so much more (see Pentatonix and Nor’Easters). This accelerated group won national recognition when they earned First Place at the National Finals of the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals. They receive a wide variety of performance opportunities, such as singing with the Guelph Symphony. Musical skills including strong sight-reading and independence of parts are a mandatory expectation for this senior group. Singers will have optional solo opportunities within the arrangements being studied. The art of a cappella singing and small ensemble performance makes this advanced group a perfect fit for motivated teenage singers.
SATB is the advanced mixed-voice choral ensemble of GYS. Open to advanced singers (upper voices and changed or changing lower voices), the choir works at a high level, exploring music from diverse genres and cultures. Singers will have strong sight-reading abilities, developed voices, and a love for elevated musical experiences. Guests this season include members of the The Elora Singers, and song writer, Alpha Kayondo. Live recordings of learned repertoire, and unique and creative performing opportunities. Singers will learn microphone technique and singing with a sound system later in the season, as we explore repertoire from the collegiate a cappella community.
