Musical Theatre Academy is open to choristers in Choirs II, III and SATB. This triple threat program studies and performs repertoire from the North American Musical Theatre tradition. Acting and dance skills are advanced through comprehensive theatre games and dance training, and then combined with vocal development from their weekly choir rehearsals. Small group singing, solos and ensemble performance, improvisation, monologue and scene study highlight this entertaining performance tradition.
2020-2021 Season
In group rehearsals, the young performers will explore stage craft through improvisation games, monologue work, scene study and dance sessions. Guests from Canada’s rich theatre community including Breanne Ritchie from the Stratford Festival and professional acting coach, Cara Brown will offer sessions on subjects related to our final performance. The members of MTA will assume the lead roles and present a scripted libretto to link all of the virtual choirs together for the module-ending presentation. Music theatre solo songs will be coached for those interested. Opportunities to record solo scenes and songs will be facilitated and may be submitted to events like the Kiwanis Festival if desired by the participants.
Sundays from 2:00-3:30
Tuition: $150 add-on per module
**MTA is an add-on to Choir II, III, or SATB.
