Musical Theatre Academy is open to choristers in Choir III and SATB. This triple threat program studies and performs repertoire from the North American Musical Theatre tradition. Vocal development from weekly choir rehearsals is combined with a focus on acting and dance skills, which are developed through comprehensive theatre games and dance training. Small group singing, solos, ensemble performance, improvisation, monologue and scene study highlight this entertaining performance tradition.
2021-2022 Season
Unless there are any objections!!!… MTA is thrilled to be undertaking the script and score of Legally Blonde Jr. The joyous satire celebrates optimism and determination, with high-energy music and dance numbers, and iconic characters you will learn to love. Solo vocal training, ensemble singing, character work, and dance will leave the performers eager to come back to the courtroom each week, and embrace all things pink.
*While rehearsals for MTA have moved to Wednesdays after Choir III, there will be five Sunday rehearsals from 2:00-4:00 outdoors that we hope you can also attend.
Outdoor rehearsal dates: September 26 and October 3, 17, 24, and 31. Off for Thanksgiving.
Wednesdays from 7:45-9:00 – in person at GYMC
Tuition: $500 for full season

Legally Blonde Jr. Camp
For interested GYS members, especially those who cannot join rehearsals at the GYMC, we are offering Theatre Camp outside, where the campers will join the Legally Blonde Jr. cast to learn music and choreography from the show, and work on scenes and character development with our artistic staff. Geared towards our younger musical theatre fans and offered to everyone registered in GYS choirs, the Sunday sessions will give a taste of the MTA experience and will aim towards a short presentation of a song and/or dance learned during rehearsals. We hope that changing circumstances in the new year will allow interested camp participants to officially join the Musical Theatre Academy as chorus members, undertaking smaller character roles.
Sundays from 2:00-4:00 – in person outdoors (Location TBD)
Fall Dates: September 26 and October 3, 17, 24. Spring dates will be determined in the new year.
Tuition: $100 for 10 rehearsals (5 Fall and 5 Spring sessions)
